Brahma said: I bow to that Supreme Light, whose form constitutes this entire universe, who is all-pervading, who is the embodiment of the cosmos, and whom the yogis meditate upon.
I bow to Him who is the embodiment of the Rigveda, the treasure-house of the Yajurveda, the source of the Samaveda, who possesses inconceivable power, who is the essence of the three Vedas, who exists in the gross form as well as the supreme transcendental form of the half-syllable, and who is beyond the three gunas.
I bow to You, the cause of all, the supreme object to be known, the primeval being, the highest light, whose true form is unknowable, who are the soul of the gods in your gross form. O resplendent Sun, I bow to You, the primeval one, who is superior to the most superior.
Prompted by Your primordial energy, I perform the creation of the elements—water, earth, wind, and fire—along with the gods and all entities beginning with the Omkara. The maintenance and dissolution of the universe as well occur not by my independent will, but by Your prompting.
You Yourself act as fire by absorbing water from the earth; You cause the creation of the worlds and bring things to maturity. O Lord, You alone pervade everything in the form of space. Thus, in the fivefold form of the elements, You protect this universe.
O Vivasvan, the knowers of the Supreme Soul worship You, who are the form of Vishnu and the embodiment of all sacrifices, through their sacrificial offerings. The ascetics, with their minds and senses controlled and desiring spiritual liberation, also meditate on You, the Lord of all.
Salutations to You, who manifest as the deities; salutations to You, who are the embodiment of sacrifice. Salutations to the one whose form is the Supreme Brahman, and who is continuously meditated upon by the yogis.
O omnipresent Lord, You are the totality of all brilliance. Please withdraw Your intense blazing radiance, for I, the creator, am now striving to commence the process of creation.
Markandeya said: Being praised in this manner by Brahma, the creator of the universe, the resplendent Sun God withdrew his intense heat and retained only a very mild, pleasant radiance.
O great sage, Brahma then created the gods, demons, human beings, animals, trees, creepers, and the hellish regions, just as they were in the previous cycles of creation.
Thus ends Sri Aditya Stavam composed by Lord Brahma in the hundredth chapter of the Sri Markandeya Purana.
