ఆది శంకరాచార్యులు రచించిన శివ పంచాక్షరి స్తోత్రం 'నమః శివాయ' అనే ఐదు అక్షరాల మహిమను కొనియాడే పవిత్ర స్తుతి. దీనిని పఠించడం వల్ల శివ సాయుజ్యం లభిస్తుంది.
నాగేంద్రహారాయ త్రిలోచనాయ భస్మాంగరాగాయ మహేశ్వరాయ | నిత్యాయ శుద్ధాయ దిగంబరాయ తస్మై "న" కారాయ నమః శివాయ || 1 ||

I bow to the letter 'Na' (in Namah Shivaya), which is of the form of Lord Shiva, who wears the king of serpents (Nagendra) as His garland, who has three eyes, who has His holy body smeared with sacred ashes, who is the Great Lord, who is eternal, pure, and clothed in the directions (digambara).

I bow to the letter 'Ma' (in Namah Shivaya), which is of the form of Lord Shiva, who is anointed with the waters of river Ganga (Mandakini) and sandalwood paste, who is the Lord of Nandi and the chief of the Pramatha Ganas, who is the Great Lord, and who is worshipped with Mandara and other exquisite flowers.

I bow to the letter 'Shi' (in Namah Shivaya), which is of the form of Lord Shiva, who is auspiciousness itself, who is like the sun that makes the lotus-face of Goddess Gouri bloom, who destroyed the sacrifice of Daksha, who has a beautiful blue throat, and who has the bull as His emblem on His flag.
వశిష్ఠ కుంభోద్భవ గౌతమార్య మునీంద్ర దేవార్చిత శేఖరాయ | చంద్రార్క వైశ్వానర లోచనాయ తస్మై "వ" కారాయ నమః శివాయ || 4 ||

I bow to the letter 'Va' (in Namah Shivaya), which is of the form of Lord Shiva, who is worshipped by the greatest sages like Vashistha, Agastya (Kumbhodbhava), and Gautama, as well as by the Devas, who wears the crescent moon on His head, and whose three eyes are the Moon, the Sun, and Fire.
యజ్ఞ-స్వరూపాయ జటాధరాయ పినాక హస్తాయ సనాతనాయ | దివ్యాయ దేవాయ దిగంబరాయ తస్మై "య" కారాయ నమః శివాయ || 5 ||
యజ్ఞ స్వరూపుడైనవాడు, జటాజూటాన్ని ధరించినవాడు, పినాకమనే విల్లును చేతపట్టినవాడు, సనాతనుడు, దివ్య పురుషుడు, ప్రకాశించే దేవదేవుడు మరియు దిగంబరుడైన ఆ శంభుని యొక్క 'య' కార స్వరూపానికి నా నమస్కారాలు.
I bow to the letter 'Ya' (in Namah Shivaya), which is of the form of Lord Shiva, who is the embodiment of all sacrifices (Yajna), who has matted locks, who holds the Pinaka bow in His hand, who is eternal, divine, luminous, and clothed in directions (digambara).
పంచాక్షరమిదం పుణ్యం యః పఠేచ్ఛివ సన్నిధౌ | శివలోకమవాప్నోతి శివేన సహ మోదతే ||
పవిత్రమైన ఈ శివ పంచాక్షరి స్తోత్రాన్ని శివ సన్నిధిలో భక్తితో పఠించేవారు శివలోకాన్ని పొందుతారు. అక్కడ వారు ఆ పరమశివునితో కలిసి నిత్యానందాన్ని పొందుతారు.
Whoever recites this holy hymn on the five letters (Panchakshara) in the presence of Lord Shiva, will attain the abode of Shiva (Shiva Loka) and rejoice with Him.
