భజ గోవిందం

ఓ మూఢుడా! గోవిందుని భజించు, గోవిందుని భజించు, గోవిందుని భజించు. మరణ కాలము ఆసన్నమైనప్పుడు వ్యాకరణ సూత్రాలు నిన్ను రక్షించలేవు.

Worship Govinda, worship Govinda, worship Govinda, O fool! When the appointed time of death arrives, the rules of grammar will not save you.

ఓ మూఢుడా! ధనసంపాదనపై ఆశను వదులుకో. నీ మనస్సులో సత్యమును గురించిన సద్బుద్ధిని పెంచుకో. నీ గత కర్మల ఫలముగా లభించిన దానితో తృప్తి చెందు.

O fool! Give up your desire for accumulation of wealth. Create in your mind thoughts about Reality. Be content with what comes through the actions of the past.

స్త్రీ దేహ సౌందర్యమును చూసి మోహానికి గురికాకు. అది కేవలము మాంసము, కొవ్వుల వికారము మాత్రమే. ఈ సత్యమును నీ మనస్సులో పదే పదే విచారించుకో.

Seeing the beautiful form of a woman, do not be infatuated. It is only a modification of flesh and fat. Reflect upon this again and again in your mind.

తామర ఆకు మీద నీటి బిందువు ఎంత చంచలమైనదో, ఈ జీవితం కూడా అంతే చంచలమైనది. ఈ ప్రపంచమంతా రోగాలతో, అహంకారంతో మరియు దుఃఖంతో పీడించబడుతోందని తెలుసుకో.

The water drop on a lotus petal has an extremely uncertain existence. So too is life, which is equally uncertain. Know that the entire world is swallowed by disease and conceit, and struck by sorrow.

నీవు ధనం సంపాదించగలిగినంత కాలం నీ కుటుంబ సభ్యులు నీపై అనురాగంతో ఉంటారు. వృద్ధాప్యంలో నీ శరీరం క్షీణించిన తర్వాత, ఇంట్లో ఎవరూ నీతో కనీసం మాట్లాడరు.

As long as you have the ability to earn money, so long will your dependents be attached to you. After that, when you live with an infirm body, no one will even speak to you.

శరీరంలో ప్రాణం ఉన్నంత కాలమే ఇంట్లో వారు నీ క్షేమసమాచారాలు అడుగుతారు. ప్రాణం పోయి శరీరం పడిపోయిన తర్వాత, సొంత భార్య కూడా ఆ శవాన్ని చూసి భయపడుతుంది.

As long as there is breath in the body, so long do people in the house inquire about your welfare. When the breath leaves and the body decays, even the wife fears that very body.

బాల్యంలో ఆటల యందు ఆసక్తి, యవ్వనంలో స్త్రీల యందు ఆసక్తి, వృద్ధాప్యంలో చింతల యందు ఆసక్తి ఉంటుంది. కానీ పరబ్రహ్మము యందు ఎవరికీ ఆసక్తి ఉండదు.

In childhood, one is attached to play. In youth, one is attached to young women. In old age, one is attached to anxiety. But no one is attached to the Supreme Brahman.

నీ భార్య ఎవరు? నీ కొడుకు ఎవరు? ఈ సంసార చక్రం చాలా విచిత్రమైనది. నువ్వు ఎవరివాడవు? ఎక్కడి నుండి వచ్చావు? ఓ సోదరా! ఈ సత్యాలను గురించి ఆలోచించు.

Who is your wife? Who is your son? This worldly existence is indeed very strange. Whose are you? From where have you come? O brother, ponder over these truths here.

సజ్జనుల సాంగత్యం వల్ల వైరాగ్యం, వైరాగ్యం వల్ల నిర్మోహత్వం కలుగుతాయి. నిర్మోహత్వం వల్ల మనస్సు నిశ్చలమవుతుంది, నిశ్చల తత్త్వం వల్ల జీవన్ముక్తి లభిస్తుంది.

From association with the good comes non-attachment; from non-attachment comes freedom from delusion; from freedom from delusion comes steadfastness of mind; from steadfastness of mind comes liberation in this life.

వయసు మీరిన తర్వాత కామవికారాలు ఎక్కడ? నీరు ఎండిపోయిన తర్వాత సరస్సు ఎక్కడ? ధనం క్షీణించిన తర్వాత పరివారం ఎక్కడ? ఆత్మ తత్త్వం తెలుసుకున్న తర్వాత ఈ సంసారం ఎక్కడ?

When youth is gone, where is the desire? When the water is dried up, where is the lake? When wealth is gone, where are the dependents? When the Truth is known, where is the worldly existence?

ధనం, బంధువులు, యవ్వనం ఉన్నాయని గర్వపడకు. కాలం వీటన్నింటినీ ఒక్క క్షణంలో హరించివేస్తుంది. మాయామయమైన ఈ జగత్తును విడిచిపెట్టి, బ్రహ్మ తత్త్వాన్ని తెలుసుకుని అందులో లీనమవు.

Do not be proud of wealth, people, and youth; time takes them all away in a minute. Leaving aside this entire world which is full of illusion, realize the state of Brahman and enter into it.

పగలు రాత్రి, సాయంత్రం ఉదయం, శిశిర వసంత రుతువులు మళ్లీ మళ్లీ వస్తుంటాయి. కాలం గడిచిపోతూ ఆయుష్షు తరిగిపోతున్నప్పటికీ, మనిషిని ఆశ అనే గాలి వదిలిపెట్టదు.

Day and night, evening and morning, winter and spring come again and again. Time plays and life ebbs away, yet the storm of desire does not leave.

ఓ పిచ్చివాడా! భార్య, ధనం గురించి ఎందుకింత చింత? నిన్ను నియంత్రించే వాడు లేడా? ఈ ముల్లోకాలలో సంసార సాగరాన్ని దాటడానికి సజ్జనుల సాంగత్యం ఒక్కటే సరైన పడవ.

Why this worry about wife and wealth, O mad one? Is there no Ordainer for you? In the three worlds, only the association with good people can be the boat to cross the ocean of worldly existence.

ఈ పన్నెండు శ్లోకాల మంజరి వ్యాకరణ పండితుని ఉద్దేశించి చెప్పబడింది. ఇది శ్రీ శంకరాచార్యుల వారి శిష్యులచే ఉపదేశించబడిన విద్యా బోధ.

This bouquet of twelve verses was imparted to a grammarian. It was a teaching given by the all-knowing disciples of the revered Lord Shankara.

జడలు ధరించినవాడు, గుండు గీయించుకున్నవాడు, వెంట్రుకలు పీకించుకున్నవాడు, కాషాయ వస్త్రాలతో పలు వేషాలు వేసేవాడు - వీరంతా చూస్తూ కూడా చూడలేని మూర్ఖులు. ఇన్ని వేషాలు కేవలం పొట్టకూటి కోసమే.

One with matted locks, one with a shaven head, one with hairs pulled out one by one, one disguising himself in many ways with ochre robes - though seeing, the fool does not see. All these various disguises are for the sake of the belly.

శరీరం ముడతలు పడింది, జుట్టు నెరిసింది, నోట్లో దంతాలు ఊడిపోయాయి. వృద్ధుడై చేతి కర్ర సాయంతో నడుస్తున్నప్పటికీ, అతడు ఆశల సమూహాన్ని మాత్రం వదులుకోడు.

The body has become decrepit, the hair has turned grey, the mouth has become toothless. The old man moves about leaning on a staff, yet he does not abandon the bundle of desires.

చలికి ముందు మంట, వెనుక సూర్యుడు, రాత్రి పూట మోకాళ్ల మధ్య తలపెట్టుకుని పడుకోవడం, చేతుల్లో భిక్ష తీసుకోవడం, చెట్ల కింద నివసించడం - ఇలాంటి కఠిన జీవనం గడుపుతున్నా ఆశ అనే బంధం మనిషిని వదలదు.

Fire in front, sun at the back, at night sitting with the knees up to the chin, receiving alms in the palms, living under a tree - yet the bondage of desire does not leave him.

గంగా సాగర సంగమానికి తీర్థయాత్ర చేసినా, వ్రతాలు ఆచరించినా, దానాలు చేసినా - ఆత్మజ్ఞానం లేనివాడు వంద జన్మలెత్తినా ముక్తిని పొందలేడు అని సర్వ శాస్త్రాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.

One may go on a pilgrimage to the place where the Ganges meets the ocean, or observe vows, or give away wealth in charity. But devoid of knowledge, according to all schools of thought, one does not attain liberation even in a hundred births.

గుడులలో లేదా చెట్ల కింద నివసించడం, నేల మీద పడుకోవడం, జింక చర్మం ధరించడం, సర్వ భోగాలను త్యజించడం - ఇటువంటి వైరాగ్యం ఎవరికి సుఖాన్నివ్వదు?

Living in temples or at the roots of trees, sleeping on the bare ground, wearing animal skin, renouncing all possessions and enjoyments - to whom does such dispassion not bring happiness?

యోగాభ్యాసంలో ఉన్నా భోగాల్లో ఉన్నా, సజ్జనుల సాంగత్యంలో ఉన్నా ఏకాంతంగా ఉన్నా - ఎవరి మనస్సు పరబ్రహ్మము నందు రమిస్తుందో, వారే ఆనందిస్తారు, వారే నిజమైన ఆనందాన్ని పొందుతారు.

Whether attached to yoga or attached to enjoyment, whether attached to company or bereft of company, he whose mind revels in Brahman, he alone enjoys, he alone enjoys, he alone enjoys!

భగవద్గీతను కొద్దిగా చదివినా, గంగా జలాన్ని ఒక్క చుక్క తాగినా, శ్రీకృష్ణుడిని ఒక్కసారైనా మనస్ఫూర్తిగా పూజించినా - అటువంటి వారికి యమధర్మరాజుతో చర్చ (భయం) ఉండదు.

Even a little study of the Bhagavad Gita, drinking even a drop of the Ganges water, and performing even once the worship of Murari (Krishna) - for such a one, there is no discussion with Yama (the god of death).

మళ్లీ మళ్లీ పుట్టడం, మళ్లీ మళ్లీ చావడం, మళ్లీ మళ్లీ తల్లి గర్భంలో శయనించడం - దాటడానికి కష్టమైన ఈ సంసార సాగరంలో చిక్కుకున్న నన్ను, ఓ మురారీ! నీ అపారమైన దయతో రక్షించు.

Being born again, dying again, and sleeping in the mother's womb again - in this world which is an ocean very difficult to cross, protect me by your infinite grace, O Destroyer of Mura!

వీధుల్లో దొరికిన చిరిగిన గుడ్డలను ధరించి, పాప పుణ్యాలకు అతీతమైన మార్గంలో నడుస్తూ, యోగంలో మనస్సును లగ్నం చేసిన యోగి - ఒక చిన్న పిల్లాడిలాగా లేదా పిచ్చివాడిలాగా ఆనందిస్తాడు.

Wearing clothes made of rags found on the streets, walking the path free from merit and demerit, the Yogi with his mind absorbed in yoga, revels just like a child or a madman.

నీవు ఎవరు? నేను ఎవరు? నేను ఎక్కడి నుండి వచ్చాను? నా తల్లి ఎవరు? నా తండ్రి ఎవరు? - అని విచారిస్తూ, ఈ ప్రపంచమంతా సారం లేనిదని తెలుసుకుని, దీనిని ఒక కలలాగా వదిలిపెట్టు.

Who are you? Who am I? From where have I come? Who is my mother? Who is my father? Thus reflecting, knowing the entire world to be essenceless, abandon it as a dream.

నీలో, నాలో, అంతటా ఉన్నది ఆ ఒక్క విష్ణువే. సహనం కోల్పోయి నాపై ఎందుకు వృధాగా కోపగించుకుంటావు? విష్ణు తత్త్వాన్ని త్వరగా పొందాలనుకుంటే, అన్ని చోట్లా సమభావంతో ఉండు.

In you, in me, and everywhere, there is only one Vishnu. You are angry with me in vain, being intolerant. Be equal-minded in all circumstances, if you desire to attain the state of Vishnu soon.

శత్రువు, మిత్రుడు, కొడుకు, బంధువుల పట్ల ద్వేషాన్ని గానీ, అతి ప్రేమను గానీ పెంచుకోకు. అందరిలోనూ ఆత్మను దర్శించు, భేదభావాన్ని కలిగించే అజ్ఞానాన్ని అన్నింటా విడిచిపెట్టు.

Do not exert yourself in either enmity or friendship towards an enemy, a friend, a son, or a relative. See the Self in all, and everywhere give up the ignorance of separateness.

కామ, క్రోధ, లోభ, మోహాలను విడిచిపెట్టి, 'ఆ పరమాత్మనే నేను' అని ఆత్మను దర్శించు. ఆత్మజ్ఞానం లేని మూర్ఖులు నరకంలో పడి నశిస్తారు.

Abandoning desire, anger, greed, and delusion, the seeker sees the Self as 'He am I'. Those fools who are devoid of Self-knowledge are cooked (tortured) in hidden hells.

భగవద్గీతను, విష్ణు సహస్రనామాలను నిత్యం పఠించాలి. శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు రూపాన్ని నిరంతరం ధ్యానించాలి. మనస్సును సజ్జనుల సాంగత్యం వైపు మళ్లించాలి. దీనులకు ధనాన్ని దానం చేయాలి.

The Bhagavad Gita and the Thousand Names of Vishnu should be sung. The form of the Lord of Lakshmi should be meditated upon constantly. The mind should be led to the company of the good. Wealth should be distributed to the needy.

సుఖం కోసం కామభోగాలను అనుభవిస్తారు, కానీ దాని వల్ల చివరకు శరీరానికి రోగాలే వస్తాయి. ఈ లోకంలో మరణం తప్పదని తెలిసినప్పటికీ, మనుషులు పాపాలు చేయడం మానరు.

Worldly enjoyments are pursued for the sake of happiness, but afterwards there is disease in the body. Although in this world death is the ultimate refuge, yet people do not give up sinful actions.

ధనం అనర్థాలకు మూలమని ఎల్లప్పుడూ భావించు, నిజానికి అందులో ఏమాత్రం సుఖం లేదు. ధనవంతులకు కన్నకొడుకు వల్ల కూడా భయమే ఉంటుంది. ప్రపంచమంతటా ఇదే ఆచారం.

Always consider wealth to be the cause of ruin; in truth, there is not an iota of happiness in it. For the rich, there is fear even from one's own son. This is the way of the world everywhere.

ప్రాణాయామం, ఇంద్రియ నిగ్రహం, నిత్యానిత్య వస్తు వివేకం జపము మరియు సమాధి విధానాలను మిక్కిలి శ్రద్ధతో ఆచరించాలి.

Control of breath, withdrawal of the senses, continuous reflection on the eternal and the non-eternal, accompanied by chanting and meditation - perform these with great care and attention.

గురువుగారి పాదపద్మాలపై సంపూర్ణ భక్తి కలిగినవాడా! ఈ సంసార బంధాల నుండి త్వరగా ముక్తిని పొందుతావు. ఇంద్రియాలను, మనస్సును నిగ్రహించడం ద్వారా నీ హృదయంలోనే ఉన్న భగవంతుని దర్శించగలవు.

O devotee, totally dedicated to the lotus feet of the Guru! May you soon become free from the cycle of birth and death. With your senses and mind disciplined in this manner, you will see the Lord residing within your own heart.

వ్యాకరణ సూత్రాలు చదవడంలో మునిగిపోయిన మూర్ఖుడైన పండితునికి శ్రీ శంకరాచార్యుల వారి శిష్యులు ఈ విధంగా బోధించి, అతని అజ్ఞానాన్ని తొలగించారు.

The foolish grammarian engrossed in studying the rules of grammar like 'Dukrunkarana' was thus instructed and cleansed of his impurities by the disciples of the revered Bhagavatpada Shankara.

ఓ మూఢుడా! గోవిందుని భజించు, గోవిందుని భజించు, గోవిందుని భజించు. భగవంతుని నామస్మరణ తప్ప ఈ సంసార సాగరాన్ని దాటడానికి వేరే ఉపాయం మాకు కనిపించడం లేదు.

Worship Govinda, worship Govinda, worship Govinda, O fool! Other than chanting the Lord's names, we see no other way to cross the ocean of worldly existence.
