When the spring season arrived again, a full year had passed. The heroic king Dasharatha, desiring progeny, proceeded to perform the Horse Sacrifice.
దశరథ మహారాజు కులగురువైన వసిష్ఠ మహర్షికి నమస్కరించి, శాస్త్రోక్తంగా అర్ఘ్యపాద్యాదులతో పూజించారు. అనంతరం సంతాన ప్రాప్తికై తాను సంకల్పించిన యజ్ఞము గురించి ఎంతో వినయపూర్వకంగా ఇలా విన్నవించారు.
Having saluted Sage Vashishta and paid respectful homage to him according to scriptural rules, the king spoke humble words to that chief of twice-born, for the sake of obtaining sons.
"ఓ బ్రహ్మర్షీ! మునిశ్రేష్ఠా! నా ఈ యజ్ఞం శాస్త్రోక్తంగా సాగేలా అనుగ్రహించండి. యజ్ఞానికి సంబంధించిన ఏ క్రతువులోనూ ఎటువంటి ఆటంకాలు కలగకుండా తగిన విధివిధానాలను నిర్దేశించండి. "
"O Brahmana! O chief of sages, let my sacrifice be conducted according to the rules. Please see that no obstacles arise in any part of this sacrifice."
"దేవా! మీరు నా యెడల అమితమైన వాత్సల్యం కలిగిన ఆత్మీయులు, హితైషులు, మరియు నా పరమ పూజ్యులైన సద్గురువులు. కాబట్టి, తలపెట్టిన ఈ మహాయజ్ఞ భారమంతటినీ మీరే భుజాలపై వేసుకుని నడిపించాలి. "
"You are my affectionate friend, well-wisher, and supreme preceptor. Therefore, the burden of conducting this proposed sacrifice must indeed be borne by you."

The distinguished sage agreed, saying “Be it so” to the king, and added: “I shall carry out everything that you have proposed.”
ఆ పిమ్మట వసిష్ఠ మహర్షి యజ్ఞ విధులలో సుదీర్ఘ అనుభవం గల వృద్ధ బ్రాహ్మణులను, వాస్తు శిల్ప కళలలో ప్రావీణ్యం ఉన్న పరమ ధార్మికులైన వృద్ధులను పిలిచి ఇలా ఆజ్ఞాపించారు.
Thereupon, Vashishta addressed the elderly brahmanas well-versed in performing sacrifices, and the highly righteous elders skilled in architecture and vastu shastra.
యజ్ఞశాల నిర్మాణానికి కావలసిన పనివారు, శిల్పులు, వడ్రంగులు, భూమిని తవ్వే పనివారు, లెక్కలు చూసే గణకులు, వివిధ శిల్పకళాకారులు, మరియు వినోదాన్ని ఇచ్చే నటులు, నర్తకులను కూడా సభకు పిలిపించారు.
(He summoned) the laborers, masons, carpenters, excavators, accountants, artisans, as well as actors and dancers.

And also pure, learned scholars well-versed in the scriptures. He told them: “All of you, in accordance with the king’s command, should set about your tasks in connection with the sacrifice.”
"యజ్ఞ కుండాల నిర్మాణానికి అవసరమైన వేలాది ఇటుకలను త్వరగా తీసుకురండి. విచ్చేసే వివిధ దేశాల రాజుల కోసం సకల సౌకర్యాలు, రాజభోగాలు కలిగిన దివ్యమైన విడిది గృహాలను నిర్మించండి. "
“Let many thousands of bricks be brought quickly. Let spacious and luxurious palaces and pavilions be constructed for the visiting kings.”

“Let hundreds of beautiful lodgings be erected for the brahmanas, well-constructed and stocked with abundant food and drinks of every variety.”

“So also, excellent food should be distributed to the rural folk, with due respect and hospitality, and not in a casual or slighting manner.”

“People of all classes must be welcomed and honored fittingly. No slight or disrespect should be shown to anyone, even under the influence of desire or anger.”

“Special honor and hospitality must be extended in due order to the workers and craftsmen who are busy with the tasks of the sacrifice.”

“They should all be well provided with money and food, so that everything is done properly and nothing is neglected or left incomplete.”

“So do you perform your duties with a heart full of love and dedication.” Then all of them, coming together, addressed Vashishta as follows.

“Bring honorable guests from all countries. Invite the heroic King Janaka of Mithila, who is of truthful prowess.”

“He who is well-versed in all scriptures and established in the knowledge of the Vedas; bring that highly illustrious king, personally offering him due honors.”

“I mention him first because of our ancient ties. Likewise, invite the King of Kashi, who is friendly and always speaks kindly.”

“Bring that king of righteous conduct, who is like a god, yourself. Also invite the aged and highly pious King of Kekaya.”

“Bring the father-in-law of our king along with his sons. Also bring the highly fortunate and well-honored Romapada, the King of Anga.”

“Bring that illustrious preceptor who is a dear friend of King Dasharatha. Also invite the kings of the East, of Sindhu, Sauvira, and Saurashtra.”

He dispatched noble messengers to bring the kings, and he himself, the virtuous one, set forth in accordance with the sage’s command.

While Sumantra hastened to bring the rulers of the earth, the supervisors of the works reported all the preparations to the wise Vashishta.
యజ్ఞం కోసం తాము సమకూర్చిన ప్రతి వస్తువును, చేసిన ప్రతి పనిని వారు వసిష్ఠుడికి చూపించారు. అది చూసి ఎంతో సంతోషించిన ఆ మహర్షి వారందరితో ఇలా అన్నారు.
They informed him of all the arrangements that had been made for the sacrifice. Thereupon, the chief of sages, highly pleased, addressed them all.

“No gift should be given with disrespect or in a light manner. For a gift offered with contempt surely destroys the giver; of this there is no doubt.”

After a few days, the kings of various lands arrived, bringing numerous gems and precious gifts for King Dasharatha.

“I have welcomed and honored all these noble kings appropriately. The preparations for the sacrifice have also been completed by diligent officers.”

“Now you may proceed to the sacrificial ground near at hand, which is fully equipped in every way with all the required materials.”

దశరథ మహారాజు జ్యోతిష్య నిపుణులు నిర్ణయించిన శుభ ముహూర్తాన, తారాబలమున్న శుభదినాన యజ్ఞశాలకు బయలుదేరారు. వసిష్ఠ మహర్షి మొదలైన బ్రాహ్మణోత్తములందరూ యజ్ఞశాలలో చేరారు.
On an auspicious day and under a favorable star, the lord of the earth set forth. Then the priests, headed by Vashishta...
దైవీ తేజస్సు కలిగిన ఋశ్యశృంగ మహర్షిని ప్రధాన ఋత్వికుడిగా ముందుంచుకొని, వసిష్ఠాది పండితులందరూ శాస్త్రోక్తంగా యజ్ఞాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు. యజ్ఞ వాటికకు చేరిన దశరథ మహారాజు తన ముగ్గురు భార్యలతో (కౌసల్య, సుమిత్ర, కైకేయి) కూడి పవిత్రమైన యజ్ఞ దీక్షను స్వీకరించి ఆసనులయ్యారు.
Placing Rishyashringa at their head, they commenced the sacrificial rites. All of them having entered the pavilion, performed the rituals according to the scriptures, and the glorious king, along with his queens, entered upon the consecration.
